Lets face it, people don’t come to Byron seeking fortune (in the monetary sense at least). Whilst the area boasts a number of self made individuals, and is recognised for its innovation and creativity, it is not a financial hub akin to New York or even London.
Our main sources of employment are Tourism, Hospitality and Agriculture, with additional jobs in education, creative industries and local retail.
Many people come to the area to live, whilst still keeping a foot in the ‘City’ camp, doing the weekly or regular commute to Sydney or one of the other metropolitan areas. This has its obvious benefits, plus its drawbacks.
Others operate within businesses or industries that lend themselves to telecommuting and there is the army of men and women sat at home in PJs delivering high value services to global clients.
